Emerald Hill as I recall...
In the days before Peranankan Place came about, there used to be a provision shop at No 6 i think. We used to get our monthly provisions from the man (Ka teck as we call him).
Our treat during the weekend mornings was going down to the corner kopitiam at the junction of Orchard Rd and Emerald Hill Rd. Anyone recall that? I manage to find some clips of how it was back then.
We also look forward to the "kok-kok mee" seller who goes up and down the street, those noodles were fantastic. Those were the days when most people had their doors open all the time. My grandma used to have this comfortable rattan chair just positioned outside our house especially in the evenings. As children, we had a lot of freedom and could roam up and down the streets and in the back alleys between Saunders and Emerald Hill Road.
The famous goreng pisang seller lived a few doors from us and we could always see bunches of bananas at his house (too bad i wasn't into fruits then).
